Hudson Cook, LLP, a consumer financial services law firm, seeks an experienced System Administrator to join the Firm's technology team in the Washington, D.C. office.

The System Administrator is an information technology professional that diagnoses and resolves technical, software, hardware and network issues for the Firm's end users. The Systems Administrator must clearly communicate technical solutions in an end-user manner and collaborate with the Firm's third-party vendors, when required.

Essential Duties

  • Maintain and administer computer networks and related computing environments including computer hardware, systems software, applications software, and all configurations.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware, software, or other network and system problems, and replace defective components, when necessary.
  • Diagnose and resolve end-user software, hardware, copier, server and local area network issues. Identify and escalate situations requiring urgent attention.
  • Maintain and upgrade software packages on end user systems.
  • Respond to requests for end user technical assistance in person, over the phone, or electronically.
  • Install, configure, and support the Firm's local area network (LAN). Monitor the Firm's network to ensure network availability to system users. Perform necessary maintenance to support network availability.
  • Analyze equipment performance records to determine the need for repair or replacement.
  • Facilitate required system, software or hardware purchases required for the Firm.
  • Design, configure, and test computer hardware, networking software and operating system software.
  • Perform routine network startup and shutdown procedures and maintain control records.
  • Configure new hire systems and software installation. Conduct new hire training on Firm software, systems, security protocols and phone systems, where applicable.
  • Coordinate repair of hardware covered by third-party vendor maintenance agreements.
  • Perform minor repairs of hardware not covered by third party vendor maintenance agreements.
  • Install and maintain network cabling and equipment, as needed.
  • Manage the firm's content storage, sharing, and collaborative platform.
  • Be available to assist as necessary with the collection, maintenance, and electronic production of client materials in connection with client investigations and litigation.
  • Able to work from both the DC and Maryland offices as needed. Travel to the Firm's satellite offices, when required.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field preferred. Associate's degree or technical school with certifications preferred.
  • At least seven years' experience in computer networks and system maintenance or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Solid technical background and knowledge of IT operations, workflow processes and procedures to resolve inquiries independently.
  • Fundamental operations of Windows 10, Windows Server 2016/2019, Microsoft Office 365
  • Intermediate computer networking knowledge
  • Programming/Scripting knowledge and experience a plus
  • Experience with VMWare Horizon or other VDI environments a plus

The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal and communications skills and the ability to communicate technical concepts effectively to a varied audience. Candidates should have strong problem analysis skills and be adept at learning new skills, systems and software. A high degree of discretion is required with the ability to exercise independent judgment. Candidate should be organized and have the ability to prioritize and manage conflicting priorities at any given time.
